Local October Events
Here at Sawmills Farm we are in a wonderful location with excellent sites all around us. The historic city of Portsmouth is just 10 miles away, with the naval base of Gosport not much further. To the east we have Chichester, and only slightly further out we have Arundel, with it’s incredible castle. We are blessed with many beautiful beaches nearby, plus wonderful countryside walks. There really is something for everyone nearby. October sees many events at these local places of interest, so we have gathered together just a few highlights for you.

Ladies Day at Fontwell Racecourse
Saturday 2nd Oct

Portsmouth 60+ Festival
4th – 15th October
This October sees a return of the 60+ Festival, designed to bring taster classes and small sessions of everything from photography and painting, to a talk and tour with the archivists of The King’s Theatre. Click here to see the full itinerary.

Groundlings Theatre History Tour
Thursday 7th & 21st October
Groundlings Theatre is the oldest theatre in Portsmouth, and a Grade 2 listed building. Costumed actors will take you on a tour through the theatre, which is steeped in history since it’s construction in 1784 – even Queen Victoria came to visit. October Foraging at Cowdray
Saturday 9th October
A must for any nature lover! Learn about foraging and wild food, discovering what edible ingredients can be found in the great outdoors. Click here for more information.

Goodwood’s Final Horse Race of the Season
Sunday 10th October
Celebrate Goodwood’s final fixture of the season, in a laid back country-style atmosphere. In between some fantastic racing, enjoy merry tunes against the backdrop of roaring fire pits and toasted marshmallows. Click here for further information.

Bond in Motion – No Time To Die Exhibition at Beaulieu Motor Museum
Friday 15th October onwards
In tribute to the latest Bond film, Beaulieu Motor Museum are holding an exhibition of some of the iconic James Bond cars, gadgets and costumes. A must for any Bond fan! Click here for more information.

The Great South Run
Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th October
This iconic run takes place in Portsmouth, passing by HMS Victory and the Historic Dockyard, before finishing on the seafront. The fast and flat 10 Mile route is one of the south coast’s most popular running events, with a buzzing atmosphere and music and entertainment zones. To find out more, click here.

Wessex Gin & Rum Festival at the Village Hotel, Cosham
Sunday 16th October
Celebrate the wonderful world of gin and rum at this stylish and unique festival. Get into the spirit with entertainment, tastings, cocktail masterclasses, complimentary products and exclusive deals. For more details, click here.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes: Living Dangerously
Monday 18th October
Sir Ranulph Fiennes visits Portsmouth Guildhall for his tour of the talk Living Dangerously. He will talk you through his personal journey, right from his childhood to all through his career as an explorer. Museum of the Moon at Chichester Cathedral
Monday 25th October – Sunday 14th November
Chichester Cathedral hosts the stunning Museum of the Moon Tour, a 7 metre diameter artwork with high resolution imagery that makes it feel like the moon is in front of you. Admission is free and you can find more information here.

Oktoberfest at Portsmouth Guildhall Square
Saturday 30th October
For one day only, the legendary Oktoberfest is returning to Portsmouth! Celebrate this Bavarian tradition without having to leave the country. Click here for more information.

Race For Life & Pretty Muddy, Portsmouth
Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st Oct
Supporting Cancer Research UK, the iconic races return for 2021. Pretty Muddy is an obstacle course, for the more adventurous of racers! For more information, click here.
