As we head towards November, let’s take a look at some of the local events that are taking place. All are within a short distance of Sawmills Campsite, so you can have a wonderful day out and still be back at your caravan or motorhome, without having to worry about a long journey.
There are also lots of exciting events coming up for December and Christmas, which require pre-booking. Here you’ll find links to a few of our favourites, so you can get sorted and start booking them in now!

Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November
There are so many events locally that celebrate Bonfire Night – from spectacular firework displays at Fontwell Racecourse, to a bonfire and firework celebration, complete with funfair and fire-breathers, at HMS Sultan in Gosport. Bordon Outdoor Cinema are hosting a firework spectacular, complete with food, drink, and even a gin bar! Local community events are also abundant, such as Stockheath Common Fireworks; run by a community charity and free for all to attend, and this year celebrating its 25th year!
From the last weekend in October through to the first weekend of November, there are events all around us. As local residents we have the local knowledge for all the best locations, so if you need us to point you in the right direction just ask! If the crowds aren’t your thing, we are located in the countryside with astounding views all around, so you can enjoy seeing the displays from the comfort of your own motorhome, without the noise and crowds!
Museum of the Moon at Chichester Cathedral
Until Sunday 14th November
Chichester Cathedral hosts the stunning Museum of the Moon Tour, a 7 metre diameter artwork with high resolution imagery that makes it feel like the moon is in front of you. Admission is free and you can find more information here.
We Shine Portsmouth
Thursday 18th – Saturday 20th November
We Shine Portsmouth is the city’s first major light festival, provided by Portsmouth Creates. The event will feature projections on buildings, large scale light installations, dance performances, and a parade – and will be free for all to enjoy. For more information, click here.
Steam Illuminations at the Watercress Line
Friday 26th November onwards
A unique pixel mappable digital LED train, on Hampshire’s wonderful steam train line. An incredible light show on and in a steam train – amazing from outside and in! For tickets and further information, click here.
Portsmouth On Ice
Saturday 27th November onwards
Portsmouth’s Guildhall square is transformed into a magical ice rink! A wonderful winter experience, it is recommended to pre-book a slot for this popular event. For more information, please click here.
Christmas Lights
That’s right, Christmas is nearly upon us! There are many events locally that are celebrating their lights, usually with markets and exciting extras. Here is just a few of the local events that have announced their upcoming celebrations for the end of November.
- Thursday 18th November – Commercial Road, Portsmouth – Lights, local school bands, choirs and dancing, plus a snowflake confetti cannon!
- Thursday 25th November – Palmerston Road, Southsea – Lights, plus performances from local school choirs, bands and dance groups.
- Friday 26th November – Petersfield – Lights, plus festive stalls and music!
Enlightened at Staunton Farm
Friday 3rd December onwards
New for 2021, Staunton farm are hosting Enlightened; an outdoor light trail full of mesmerising light installations. A magical experience for all the family. Click here for more information.
